Amid growing rumors of a PS5 Pro reveal, Sony has just announced a “PS5 technical showcase” livestream, hosted by Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5. According to a PlayStation Blog post, this 9-minute presentation will focus on the PS5 and advancements in gaming technology. It will air on PlayStation’s YouTube channel at 11 am ET.
The blog doesn’t give much detail, but the announcement has sparked excitement among PS5 fans. Just last week, Sony celebrated 30 years of PlayStation with a blog post, and eagle-eyed users noticed an icon that resembled leaked PS5 Pro sketches. These sketches hinted at a design similar to the Slim but with added stripes. For months, rumors and leaks have suggested that Sony would release a PS5 Pro as a mid-generation upgrade, and this latest blog post only fuels the speculation further.
The PS5 Rumors So Far
“PlayStation Super Sampling” (PSSR) could enhance frame rates using machine learning techniques.
Additional information regarding the Pro’s specifications has emerged from YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, with further confirmation provided by Insider Gaming and IGN. Allegedly, the Pro model is set to deliver an impressive 67 teraflops of compute power, translating into 33.5 Tflops of real-world gaming performance. By comparison, the standard PS5 offers just 10.28 Tflops. This considerable performance leap positions the Pro to potentially rival high-end gaming PCs. Moreover, another report suggests an increase in system memory, with the Pro receiving 576GBs, up from the base PS5’s 448GBs.
The same report indicates that, while the Pro will retain the same CPU as its predecessor, it will incorporate a “High CPU Frequency Mode” that elevates the clock speed to 3.5GHz. This adjustment is anticipated to result in a 10% performance increase. Furthermore, the PS5 Pro is expected to boast a 45% improvement in rendering speeds, coupled with enhanced ray tracing capabilities.
Lastly, circulating rumors propose that the PS5 Pro may feature a 2 TB SSD. That would be a significant upgrade from the 825 GB storage in the standard model and the 1 TB found in the Slim variant.
With the possible launch just a few hours away, there is no need for further speculation. We will know all the details pretty soon straight for Sony. Interestingly, Sony spilled the beans ahead of the time with a short video entitled “PS5 Pro” on its YouTube Channel. Upon realizing the mistake, Sony promptly removed the video.
