Leighton Meester says that many fans who recognize her from Gossip Girl weren't even alive yet when the show debuted in 2007.

"Now people are like, 'It's vintage.' "Meester, 38, told Access Hollywood in a recent interview promoting her new series, Good Cop/Bad Cop. "Or sometimes I'm like, 'You weren't born yet when we started.' There's a lot of that. Or even when we wrapped."

And despite the fact the show went off the air in 2012 after six seasons, Meester noted that some audience members are new to the series.

"There's people who are just discovering it," she added.

She continued: "I do think it's kind of incredible because of a time and place. There was no social media. I don't even think it was happening — there was no such thing as that when we started, really ... I think people are very nostalgic for that kind of thing because ... it's just comfort for people. Whether they've seen it once or they want to try it for the first time."

Meester starred as Blair Waldorf on the show, which was based on the Cecily von Ziegesar book series and followed a group of wealthy teenagers on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

The original Gossip Girl ran for six seasons between 2007 and 2012, and starred Meester, Blake Lively, Penn BadgleyChace Crawford and Ed Westwick. A reboot of the show premiered on HBO Max in 2021 but was cancelled after two seasons.

Meester tied the knot with actor Adam Brody in 2014. Since then, the couple has welcomed two children together: daughter Arlo, 9, and a son, 4, whose name has not yet been revealed.

Speaking to InStyle for a recent interviewBrody was asked if he and his now-wife ever "reminisce together or go back and rewatch the shows" in which they starred — Gossip Girl for her and The O.C. for him.

"We don't watch it," he admitted, while acknowledging that may change in the future. "Who knows, when our kids are older, if they want to, then maybe we'll take that trip with them."

They'll have more of a reason to now: on Feb. 20, it was announced that Meester would be joining her husband's Netflix hit, Nobody Wants This, in season 2.
